Parents/Guardians:

We hope your summer is off to a great start. The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is looking ahead to the fall kick off of the 2021-2022 school year. MPUSD and it’s schools will return to traditional, in-person, five days a week school beginning August 4, 2021.

We understand that families may not be comfortable sending their student back to this type of traditional, in-person instruction. In an effort to meet students and families where they are, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is pleased to offer Digital Academy, a subset of our Independent Study program, in the 2021-2022 school year. It is important to understand that this Virtual Independent Study Academy will not be the same as what your child experienced this past school year.

This new Digital Academy will be offered as follows:
  • Not In Person, Off Campus
  • Grades K-8: Daily synchronous live check-in with a teacher via Zoom
  • Grades 9-12: Synchronous live check-in with a teacher via Zoom; days still being determined by the state
  • Students will be required to work independently without a teacher
  • Family support will be necessary to ensure student success
  • In accordance with state law, consistent and regular attendance is mandatory to participate in this program or students will be required to return to their home school for traditional, in-person instruction
Please take a moment to review the two MPUSD educational options for the fall 2021-2022 school year and indicate in the survey on this ParentSquare post no later than Friday, June 18, 2021, which model you prefer your student to take advantage of.

We will host a Town Hall on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in English and Spanish to outline the two educational models that will be offered. You may access the Zoom meeting HERE.

NOTE: These programs may be affected based on any updated guidance from the California Department of Education, the California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control.
