On Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. students, teachers, and staff in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District will participate in the California Great Shakeout earthquake drill.
All participants will be asked to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On."
According to ShakeOut.org, there are currently 13,721,350 (as of September 16, 2024) participants registered to take part in this year's drill.
During the drill at MPUSD schools and facilities, office staff will test the district emergency radio communication system. The drill is expected to last one minute. Once students, teachers, and staff are accounted for, school sites report their all clear to the district level, and the district reports its all clear to the Monterey County Office of Education.
