Red Ribbon Week is recognized every year from October 23-31. According to the Red Ribbon Campaign, the National Family Partnership sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Campaign in 1988.
The Red Ribbon Campaign works to bring awareness to the problem of drug use, education for school-aged children on the destruction caused by drugs and provides an opportunity for participation in drug prevention activities.
This year, at least two schools in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District participated in promoting the mission of Red Ribbon Week. Students and staff at the Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula in Seaside and Crumpton Elementary in Marina participated in educational and support activities throughout the week with themed days including crazy hair/hat day and school colors day.
Red Ribbon Week activities are meant to bring students together, to build confidence in their resistance to drugs and advocate for their success in school.
