In the 2023-2024 academic year, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District made an important change to its high school bell schedule to optimize the learning environment and ensure that students have the best possible educational experience.
One significant change pertains to the early dismissal schedule, which will now occur only one to two times a month, as opposed to the weekly early dismissals last year.
This modification was made after careful consideration and discussions with the school staff and students. The weekly early dismissals may have presented challenges for both students and families in terms of planning and productivity. By transitioning to a more consolidated early dismissal schedule, the district and its high schools aim to provide a more supportive and uninterrupted learning environment for students, enabling them to make the most of their time in the classroom. This change also allows for an “Flex” period one to two times a month that allows for students to get additional support from their teachers or staff during the school week.
On the designated early dismissal days, high schools will end promptly at 2:10 p.m., thirty minutes earlier than the previous year's early dismissal time. For students who utilize MPUSD's school transportation, buses will be adjusted accordingly to accommodate the updated schedule.
This change will create a positive impact on the overall academic experience, allowing for more focused instruction and reducing disruptions to the learning process. Additionally, it will grant teachers valuable extra time for professional development and collaboration, which ultimately benefits the entire school community.
