MPUSD marks World Inclusion Day on Tuesday, October 10

At 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, MPUSD's Special Education Department is inspiring all schools to participate in an inclusive activity for at least 10 minutes. We plan to share some visuals from those efforts later in the day.

What Does Inclusion Mean?

According to worldinclusionday.org, inclusion is defined as: Accepting, supporting, and embracing differences and diversity in a way that clearly shows all individuals are valued, recognized, and accepted for who they truly are. This involved demonstrating respect for the abilities, beliefs, backgrounds, and cultures of those around you and engaging those with diverse perspectives, so that others feel an unconditional sense of belonging for who they are.

We also want to encourage the entire community to participate in this celebration. Some examples of activities include:
  • Wear the color yellow (Yellow stands for inclusion because it is easily seen and symbolizes energy, warmth, positivity, and optimism)
  • Dance party including songs that talk about inclusion
  • Create an awareness campaign
  • Share social media posts with #wechoosetoinclude #mpusdway
  • Inclusive sport game or activity
  • Collaborative art project
  • Pledge for inclusion and have students/staff sign the pledge
