In the bustling cafes across the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, a team of heroes work tirelessly behind the scenes, crafting not just meals but fuel for students’ minds. Between preparing healthy food, navigating the intricate landscape of student food allergies, building relationships with students, and offering service with a smile, MPUSD’s school nutrition professionals are true champions of the school district.
As the calendar turns to April 26, MPUSD is stepping up to honor these everyday heroes during School Nutrition Employee Week, a celebration set to continue through May 3. The end of the week is marked by School Lunch Hero Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the dedication and hard work of our culinary experts.
Behind the scenes, a total of 20 cafe managers and 73 employees orchestrate the daily meals that are served at 19 schools across the district. This school year, their collective efforts have resulted in more than 3,400 breakfasts and 4,600 lunches served daily to students.
Take this week to express gratitude, acknowledging that school nutrition employees make a difference in the lives of every student who passes through our cafe doors.
Since 2013, the School Nutrition Association has been commemorating this week annually, recognizing the invaluable contributions of those who ensure our students are not just nourished but equipped for success.
