Monterey Peninsula Unified School District celebrates recognition for PBIS excellence at nine schools

Monterey, CA - Eight schools within the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District have been recognized by the California PBIS Recognition System for their outstanding execution of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at various levels, including platinum, gold, and silver during the 2022-2023 school year.

Award submissions for the 2023-2024 are currently being written and submitted by our school teams.

Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh, expressed immense pride in the schools' achievements.

"We are extremely proud of our schools and their commitment to implementing consistent PBIS practices. Receiving these awards reflects their excellence in the implementation of the core features of PBIS," Diffenbaugh said.

The recognized schools and their respective awards are as follows:

Platinum:

  • Del Rey Woods Elementary
  • Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula
  • Monte Vista School
  • Olson Elementary School

Gold:

The names of MPUSD's honored schools are now displayed on the California PBIS website and were prominently showcased at the 8th annual California PBIS Conference in Sacramento earlier in the 2023-2024 school year.

California PBIS initiated its statewide recognition system in 2015 to acknowledge schools for faithfully implementing PBIS according to the national framework. Schools undergo evaluation to be recognized as Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum PBIS schools.

In a congratulatory letter, California PBIS expressed appreciation for the schools' dedication, stating, "We sincerely appreciate your hard work and commitment to implementing PBIS with fidelity and creating the conditions to maximize social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes for ALL students."

PBIS is defined as a framework by California PBIS, aimed at enhancing the adoption and implementation of evidence-based interventions to achieve important academic and behavioral outcomes for all students. It emphasizes a process or approach rather than a specific curriculum or practice, highlighting the importance of positive school and classroom culture in fostering individual student success.
