On November 5, 2024, the voters of Del Rey Oaks, Marina, Monterey, Sand City, and Seaside came together to overwhelmingly support the future of our children and our community. With a resounding 63.88% approval, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District’s $340 million dollar school bond Measure A has passed, paving the way for transformative investments in MPUSD's schools. The district extends its deepest gratitude to the voters for their trust and commitment to ensuring that every student in our district has access to the safe, modern, and equitable educational facilities they deserve.
For over 60 years, MPUSD has been at the heart of these communities, dedicated to nurturing a long-standing culture of academic excellence and community engagement. The passage of Measure A reinforces the shared vision of becoming one of the finest public school systems in the country—a goal only achievable with the steadfast dedication of an entire community.
Affordable Housing for Retaining and Attracting Educators
One of the hallmark features of Measure A is its commitment to addressing the affordable housing crisis affecting MPUSD educators. By creating stable, affordable housing for teachers and staff, MPUSD will be better equipped to attract and retain the exceptional professionals needed to foster academic success. This investment ensures that students are guided by qualified, dedicated teachers who can focus on their passion for education without the stress of unaffordable living costs.
Upgrading Schools for the Future
Many of MPUSD’s schools, some over 50 years old, will now receive critical safety, security, and infrastructure upgrades. These improvements include secured entry points, updated security cameras, and modernized communication systems to ensure the safety of every student and staff member in emergencies. Additionally, Measure A will fund much-needed classroom and campus updates, preparing students for 21st-century careers in fields like science, engineering, and the arts.
Locally Controlled, Accountable Funding
Measure A represents a clear, community-driven commitment to educational excellence. Funds generated will provide updated classrooms, labs, and facilities that support high-quality instruction in math, science, arts, athletics, and career technical education. Every dollar from Measure A will remain under local control, protected by strict fiscal oversight, mandatory annual audits, and a citizens’ oversight committee to ensure transparency and accountability. None of the funds will be used for administrators’ salaries or pensions.
A Shared Vision for a Brighter Tomorrow
With Measure A, MPUSD can now implement plans to expand career technical education facilities, repair aging infrastructure, install energy-efficient solar systems, and more. These investments will help prepare MPUSD students for college, careers, and leadership roles in an ever-changing world, while also strengthening property values and community pride.
Thank you, voters, for believing in the power of education to transform lives and for investing in a brighter future for our children and our community. Together, we will continue to incite excellence and inspire change across MPUSD.
