The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is pleased to announce the establishment of the Measure A Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee following the successful passage of school bond Measure A in the November 5, 2024, election. This committee reflects MPUSD’s commitment to fiscal accountability, transparency, and community involvement in the implementation of bond-funded projects.
On July 23, 2024, the MPUSD Board of Education adopted Resolution No. 24/25-02 to place Measure A, a $340 million general obligation bond, on the ballot. With over 55% voter approval, Measure A authorized the district to make significant investments in modernizing and improving local schools, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and prepared to support 21st-century learning.
As required under Proposition 39, passed by California voters in 2000, MPUSD established the Measure A Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee through Resolution No. 24/25-11 on January 14, 2025.
The committee’s role is to oversee the expenditure of bond funds and ensure they are used exclusively for voter-approved projects.
The Measure A Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee will:
- Review expenditures to ensure bond funds are used as intended.
- Provide reports to the community on the progress and status of bond-funded projects.
- Ensure compliance with Proposition 39 requirements.
To ensure continuity and leverage existing expertise, the MPUSD Board appointed members of the school bond Measure I Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (established for the district’s previous $213 million bond measure) as the initial members of the Measure A Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. This approach ensures a smooth transition and continued focus on accountability.
The Board has also adopted bylaws outlining the structure, responsibilities, and operational guidelines for the Measure A Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. The committee’s upcoming meeting on March 5, 2025, will mark the official start of members’ terms and begin their vital work.
The committee shall consist of:
- A business representative
- Senior citizen group representative
- Taxpayer organization representative
- Parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the distirict
- Parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district and active in a Parent-Teacher Organization
- At-large community member (resident in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District)
WANTED: The district is currently looking for members to fill the senior citizen group representative, parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district, parent or guarding of a child enrolled in the district and active in a Parent-Teacher Organization, and at-large community member.
