The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District joins the School Social Work Association of America to celebrate National School Social Work Week, held March 2 - 8, 2025.
This week-long celebration shines a spotlight on the dedicated professionals who play a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being and success of students in MPUSD. The district encourages the community to honor and recognize the tireless efforts of school social workers, whose commitment to fostering positive school environments directly impacts students, administrators, teachers, educators, parents, and the community-at-large.
While many positions at MPUSD, such as community liaisons and counselors, provide valuable support and services to students and families, social workers are specifically trained to help individuals, families, communities, and even the larger society navigate changing regulations and laws and support them in identifying needed services. Social workers are everywhere - in schools, hospitals, and at the federal, state, and local levels in government, corporations, social service agencies, and veterans centers, as well.
Specifically at MPUSD, six districtwide school social workers support students and their families with highly skilled social services. They identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with any disruption to a student’s ability to access education successfully. Additionally, they provide consultation services to school staff to support the overall academic, behavioral, and social emotional goals of the school that are aligned to the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework.
During the week of March 2-8, 2025, let’s thank our social workers for the valuable service and resources they provide to support MPUSD students and families.
