MPUSD honors bilingual/multilingual learners during national advocacy week

At MPUSD, we believe that bilingualism and multilingualism are powerful assets that enrich our classrooms, strengthen our communities, and prepare students for a global future.

Honoring the Success of Multilingual Learners

MPUSD is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where students can thrive in multiple languages. Through programs like the Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula and robust English Learner Services, we support students in achieving academic success while preserving their cultural identities.

One of the district’s key milestones in supporting multilingual learners is the Reclassification Celebration, which recognizes students who have met rigorous criteria to be reclassified as fluent English proficient.

This year’s first event will took place on January 29, 2025, at the District Services Center, celebrating students who have demonstrated proficiency in English while maintaining their home language skills.

Our next celebration for semester two will be Wednesday, May 38 from 5:30-7pm at our District Services Center, 540 Canyon Del Rey Blvd., Del Rey Oaks.

The Benefits of Multilingualism

Research shows that bilingual and multilingual students develop enhanced cognitive skills, increased cultural awareness, and greater career opportunities.

MPUSD is committed to expanding language access and supporting families through translation services, bilingual outreach, and community engagement efforts.

Join Us in Advocacy

This month, we encourage families, educators, and community members to celebrate the achievements of our bilingual and multilingual learners. Whether by participating in school events, learning a new language, or advocating for language education policies, we can all play a role in supporting linguistic diversity.
