MPUSD celebrates 2025 National Robotics Week

This annual celebration, which takes place in April, highlights the growing impact of robotics and automation in education and industry, emphasizing the importance of preparing students for the future. It is also the time of year when robotics teams from Monterey, Seaside, and Marina high schools participate in local and national competitions.

Robotics programs provide students with hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Through participation in robotics clubs, classroom projects, and competitions, students gain valuable technical skills and real-world applications of coding, engineering, and artificial intelligence.

This year, an underwater remotely operated vehicle club club was added at Del Rey Woods Elementary School led by Stan Wyman. Students are preparing to compete in the Monterey Bay Regional-MATE International ROV competition at the end of April.

From elementary to high school, MPUSD students are diving into robotics in exciting ways. Younger students are introduced to coding and engineering fundamentals through interactive robotics kits, while middle and high school students take on more advanced challenges, such as designing and programming autonomous robots.

This year, MPUSD held its second annual 5th grade hackathon at the Oldemeyer Center in Seaside, which incorporates many of the skills students will need to participate in robotics in high school.
