National Board Certification

The vision of Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is to become one of the finest public school systems in the country that serves ALL students well, and engages each student in deep learning that prepares them to solve the challenges of the 21st century. To fulfill this vision, MPUSD will assist teachers working toward National Board Certification, the gold standard in teacher certification. The rigorous process to earn the National Board Certification builds the capacity of MPUSD teachers in ways that increase student achievement and close the achievement gap.

The mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by...

• Maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do;
• Providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards; and
• Advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and capitalizing on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.
