Helping Students Stay Connected to Learning

At Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD), we know that sometimes students need to miss school. Whether an absence is planned in advance or has already occurred, we offer options to help students stay connected to learning and make up eligible absences or instructional time.

Families may have access to several options depending on their child's circumstances:

  • Short-Term Independent Study: For planned absences, allowing students to complete schoolwork while away from school.

  • Saturday Academy: Opportunities for students to participate in learning and enrichment activities on designated Saturdays while making up eligible absences.

  • Attendance Recovery: Opportunities for students to make up eligible instructional time outside the regular school day.

Which option is right for your child?

Explore the guide below to learn more about each option, how it works, and what families should know.

Have questions? Contact your child's school for assistance in determining which attendance option may be available and appropriate for your student.
